El Rojo y la Bombonera se repartieron un empate de oportunidades

Merentiel quedó solo frente a Mele y no pudo definir.

La novelty was the change under the three posts. Jadson Viera chose Santiago Mele instead of Rodrigo Rey, who had shown doubts in the previous match against Racing. The decision gave independence to goalkeeper who, from then on, became key.

Mele came out well. Besides neutralizing the danger of Merentiel, he was attentive to play and avoided a loss that could have been uncomfortable. With no goals, his performance ended up being one of the main explanations for the local result.

• Merentiel, alone against Mele, could not finish after a cross from Flores.
• Flores missed a right-footed shot with the goal at his mercy after a precise long pass from Lozano.
• Mele made a decisive save against a left-footed effort from Merentiel.
• Avila created two consecutive chances for Independiente.
• Montiel finished a counterattack with a weak shot.

The temperature also rose with Alan Velasco. The former Independiente player returned to the club after his time in the United States, but chose Boca and was received with whistles and insults by the local crowd. The former Rojo player was substituted in the second half.

On the pitch, the game remained tight. Marcone received his fifth yellow card of the season and will miss the next match against Defensa y Justicia. Avila was also booked for pushing Braida.

“¿Creen que alguno de los dos equipos merece llevarse el partido, o el empate refleja lo que se vio en la cancha?”Diego Sartori, Deportes

The first meeting between these teams in Avellaneda since July 2023 ended in a 0-0 draw. Since then, their clashes had been held at the Bombonera. Around the Libertadores de América, Independiente's political activity was also present ahead of the presidential election scheduled for December 13, with Gaston Gaudio, Enrique Sacco and Luciano Nakis as candidates.

Next stop: Defensa y Justicia for Independiente, while Boca will continue in its own path. The table will tell more than this classic.
